Everywhere and Nowhere

 ‘Everywhere and Nowhere’ 2018

is a piece of work that attempts to explore the nuances of my experiences growing up, navigating and living my life as a third cultured person. While the idea of being part of so many different cultures (in my case Indian, Turkish, Singaporean and Australian) is a rewarding privilege, I’ve often struggled with the concept of belonging. Never being fully immersed in a specific culture can be confusing, messy and often isolating with a common feeling, of being a fraud within your own culture and, that you’ll never fully belong or be accepted.

In this film I explore the parts of my heritage I feel most distant too; Indian and Turkish. Through the dichotomy of the jagged, messy and jarring post internet elements blended with traditional visuals and sounds I attempt to create a dialogue that channels my internal insecurities of how I feel I’m being judged and scrutinised compared to the romanticised version of how I try/wish to be seen and portrayed – confident, knowledgeable and properly cultured.
