‘Allergy Season’ , 2018.
Allergy Season (2018) is inspired by the duality between the way we present ourselves in front of the camera for social media; in comparison to the truth behind the photograph. Our Instagram profiles are carefully curated depictions of the life we want to show the world we live. More often than not this “reality” we show our followers is closer to fiction as we conceal the ugly, gross, or even mundane sides of life. Through my 24 frames, I’ve explored this concept of social media as a glamorised façade through the jarring juxtaposition between mainstream beauty and the grotesque. The highly edited and carefully considered aesthetic elements of the surrounding frame (as you may often see scrolling through Instagram) is suddenly confronted by the shocking yet humorous notion of the abject body through something as mundane as a sneeze.
